Getting your legal affairs in order

As we settle into the first months of the new year, many of us use this time to sort out important matters which have been waiting for our attention.  If you’ve got some unresolved legal matters waiting to be sorted out, now is a good time to do it.

In this article, we’ll look at three legal areas that might need your attention. Let’s find out more.

1 – Your business

If you run a business, there may be legal issues which you simply don’t have time or expertise to deal with. Here are a few examples:

● Having employment contracts drawn up or reviewed

●       Chasing unpaid debts

●       Updating existing business contracts which may be out of date

●       Putting a Lasting Power of Attorney in place for your business – someone to take over the day-to-day running of the company if you couldn’t do it for any reason

2 – Your Will and LPA

If you haven’t got around to making your Will yet, now’s a good time to do it. It’s not something that many of us want to think about, but making as Will can provide peace of mind that your loved ones will be looked after when you are not here. Even if you have made a Will, it is worth checking it regularly to make sure it captures your wishes, which may have changed since you made it.

It’s also a good time to think about who will make your legal, financial and medical decisions if you lose mental capacity and cannot make those decisions yourself. You can deal with these matters by creating Lasting Power of Attorneys. There are two types of Lasting Power of Attorney so you could choose different people to deal with legal and financial matters and medical decisions, if you wish.

By leaving it to chance, your affairs may not be dealt with in the way that you want them to.

3 – Your property

There may be outstanding issues relating to your property which you just haven’t sorted yet.

For example, you might want to check how you own a property, whether it is jointly or as tenants in common. This is important as it can affect how your estate is distributed when you pass away.

We can help you to sort these matters quickly putting your mind at ease. You just need to contact us.
